You don't have to choose between strong academics and protecting your child's love of learning.

Academics are important, but so is emotional intelligence, creativity, and joy.

Kindergarten and 1st grade are foundation years where children deserve an education that challenges their minds without asking them to trade curiosity, creativity, movement, emotional development, & childhood for hours behind a desk.

Upper Early Elementary · Kindergarten & 1st grade

Our Ratio = 1:15 Utah Ratio = 1:20

Upper Early Elementary offers families an alternative to the traditional elementary experience for Kindergarten and 1st grade. With smaller classes and individualized learning, we give children room to grow academically and socially while preserving the curiosity that makes them want to learn in the first place.

Our Curriculum

Academic foundations matter and so does the kinds of learner y6our child is becoming. Children are given increasing responsibility for their work, their environment, relationships, and their role within the classroom community.

Students develop skills in literacy, cursive writing, mathematics, science, social studies, & the arts through a combination of explicit instruction, hands-on materials, individual and small group work, collaborative projects, and real- world experiences.

Our approach brings together Montessori independence and mastery, Waldorf creativity, rhythm, nature, and Reggio collaboration, project-based learning, and documentation. Learning extends beyond the classroom through deeper projects, outdoor education, gardening, animal care, kids market, and field trips.

The goal is not to simply prepare them for the next grade. It is to help them become curious, capable learnings who understand how to think, how to ask questions, how to solve problems, and how to contribute to a community.

Requirements

Kindergarten: Children must be 5 years old by September 1st. Families may choose from half-day or full-day kindergarten options.

1st Grade: Students attend Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm to provide the consistency and instructional time needed for the elementary program.

Childhood doesn't need to become more institutional just because kindergarten begins.

Your child can learn to read, write, create, and think deeply while still moving their body, spending time outdoors, getting their hands dirty, asking a hundred questions, and being a child.

We are building strong students, but we are also protecting the curiosity, confidence, creativity, and joy that make children want to keep learning.
