Preschool ages are becoming wonderfully independent while still needing a lot of support navigating choices, emotions, friendships, boundaries, and their rapidly expanding world.
We meet each child where they are while partnering with families to provide the connection, consistency, & individualized guidance children need while building the confidence, curiosity, and independence that prepare them for elementary school and a lifelong love of learning.
Early Elementary is where children's growing independence meets a richer world of ideas, relationships, creativity, and purposeful learning.
Our mixed-age environment gives children opportunities to learn at their own developmental pace while participating in a connected classroom community. Younger children learn through observation and older children deepen their confidence through responsibility and leadership.
Rather than rushing children toward kindergarten, we focus on building the developmental foundation that makes them ready for what comes next.
Children at this age are naturally driven to understand how things work, why things happen, and where they fit into the world around them. Early Elementary blends Montessori independence and hands-on learning with Waldorf rhythm, imagination, creativity, and connection to nature.
Engaging in practical life, early literacy & mathematics, science & nature, art, music, sensory experiences, movement, gardening, and meaningful projects that allow academic concepts to develop are experienced rather than worksheets and memorization alone.
Just as importantly, children are learning how to be part of a community. Teachers guide them through friendships, conflict resolution, emotional awareness, patience, empathy, and repairing relationships when things don't go as planned.
Early Elementary expands beyond the classroom to our outdoor classroom, care of our animals and garden, and age-appropriate experiences on field trips.
Children entering Early Elementary must be independently toilet capable without support and able to participate in the daily rhythm of a preschool classroom. Occasional accidents happen when children are deeply engaged in play.
If reoccurring accidents happen, our teachers and leadership team will partner with you to determine what classroom environment or support will best meet the child's current developmental needs.
